While volunteering today, a woman client told me she’d had viral meningitis, followed by an injection in the spine. She was still in pain days after the injection, so I offered healing. Two of us laid hands on her. Afterwards she said she felt heat and a tingling feeling all over her body, and the pain had lessened. I told her that was the Spirit of God – the Holy Spirit – touching her. She also said she’d previously been taken to a Spiritualist church for healing, but nothing had happened. She said “it felt a dark place” and I explained to her why it was a dark place. She then told me she felt she wanted to find her way in life, so I gave her a Luke’s Gospel and invited her to take it home and read it. She left with a “thank you very much”.
Shortly afterwards a Christian man involved in our outreach work to the needy came in, clearly in pain as he was limping badly. He told me what the diagnosis was and how it would take a while to recover. I told him we’d just prayed for a woman for healing and invited him to receive also. He just smiled and left it at that, despite remaining with our team for the next couple of hours.
Sadly, the church largely fails to teach on healing, so the devil has a field day offering counterfeit healing thought Spiritualism. Meanwhile, Christians don’t know what to believe on the subject since it’s ignored by most church leaders. Didn’t Jesus command his followers to “teach everything I have commanded you” to those that followed on? Jesus taught the 12 and 70 to preach the kingdom and heal the sick. If we’re to be obedient to Jesus we need to obey His commands.
